Fair futures reflection and notes

Reflection
The discussions during the Fair Futures seminar opened up a world of intriguing concepts, from Blockchain and NFTs to governance principles and a decentralised system named DAFNE+. I was never truly interested in all these systems, this seminar brought new perspectives. As I immersed myself in these discussions, a few key takeaways emerged.

Blockchain, I learned (I knew a tiny bit about it), acts as a transparent, decentralised ledger for transactions, resisting control by traditional authorities. However, the news of the substantial energy consumption associated with data storage raised valid concerns about the sustainability of these practices. It brought me to question the environmental implications of technological advancements.

The exploration of NFTs added a layer of complexity. These unique digital assets, coupled with smart contracts, showcased the potential for transformative changes in various sectors. The example of cryptoKitties merging through a smart contract illustrated the possibilities arising from this technology.

The discussion on governance principles, with Elinor Ostrom's ideas, emphasised the importance of community-driven decision-making. This resonated with my values of considering local conditions and fostering participation in decision processes.

DAFNE+, introduced as a decentralised system, intrigued me. The mention of breaking intellectual property rights through non-fungible tokens exposed a disruptive exploration of traditional models. This made me ponder the evolving landscape of ownership and sharing of ideas.

The prospect of breaking away from centralised structures, got my attention. It suggested a bold step toward more inclusive and decentralised approaches.

In summary, the seminar provided a rich number of insights. They set off my curiosity about the potential of blockchain, NFTs, and decentralised systems, while also bringing thoughtful reflections on their environmental impact, governance structures, and the evolving dynamics of intellectual property. The journey towards a fair future, it seems, involves navigating a complex interplay of technological progress and ethical considerations.
